Full Council

Parish Councillors are elected firstly as members of Full Council and then members of the various Committees. The Full Council is responsible for all aspects of the Parish Council’s remit. However, they will delegate specific powers to Committees.

Planning Committee

The Parish Council Planning Committee considers applications in its area at its meetings, which are usually held monthly, on a Monday evening and makes representations to Dorset Council. The Parish Council is not the Local Planning Authority and has no powers to determine planning applications in Alderholt, these are decided by Dorset Council. However, they consult the Parish Council on most applications in Alderholt. As well as being able to raise any issues with the Parish Council, we strongly recommend that anyone wishing to support or oppose an application does so directly to Dorset Council.

Finance Committee

This committee will normally meet publicly twice a year or more often if it is deemed necessary by the Committee Chairman or clerk.

Neighbourhood Plan Committee

Neighbourhood planning gives communities direct power to develop a shared vision for their neighbourhood and shape the development and growth of their local area. They are able to choose where they want new homes, shops and offices to be built, have their say on what those new buildings should look like and what infrastructure should be provided, and grant planning permission for the new buildings they want to see go ahead. Neighbourhood planning provides a powerful set of tools for local people to plan for the types of development to meet their community’s needs and where the ambition of the neighbourhood is aligned with the strategic needs and priorities of the wider local area.

Annual Parish Meeting

The Annual Parish meeting is not a meeting of the Parish Council but is instead a meeting of the Parish electors which must take place between 1st March and 1st June.

Staffing Committee

The Staffing Committee will normally meet twice a year or more often if it is deemed necessary by the Committee Chairman or the Clerk. Depending on the business being undertaken at a meeting, it may be necessary for the Committee to move a report into exempt session.
